Terrorist Attack in Poonch, J&K: One soldier martyred, one in critical condition; Security Convoy Targeted, Search operation continues in the area

Terrorist Attack in Poonch: There is news of a terrorist attack on an Air Force vehicle in Surankot, Jammu. According to sources, one soldier has died in this attack, while 5 people are reported to be injured.

Terrorist Attack in Poonch: Terrorists attacked the Indian Air Force convoy in Surankot in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. According to news agencies, an official said that one of the five soldiers injured in the terrorist attack on the Indian Air Force convoy in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir has martyred. security forces say that one of the five Indian Air Force personnel injured in the terrorist attack has died in the hospital during treatment. Another soldier is in critical condition and is undergoing treatment while the remaining three are in stable condition.The vehicles have been secured inside the air base in the general area near Shahsitar. At present, the area is surrounded by the army.

NDTV has quoted sources on the matter and said that 4 Air Force personnel were also injured in this attack. The terrorists had fired heavily on the army vehicles. After this, additional forces have been sent to the area and anti-terror operation is being carried out. 

Indian Army on Search Operation.

What did the army say?

Sources in the security forces said, “Militants have attacked a convoy of Indian Air Force vehicles in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Local Rashtriya Rifles units have launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The vehicles have been secured inside the air base in the general area near Shahsitar. The military personnel have been injured.” There is no report of any damage or casualties in the attack so far. The injured soldiers have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Today, on Saturday, a tragic accident took place in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, where an army vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch in Verinag area. In this incident, an army soldier lost his life, while about nine people were injured.

There was an attack in Surankot in December last year as well

On 21 December, terrorists attacked an army convoy in Surankot. 5 soldiers were martyred in this. 4 terrorists carried out this incident. The terrorists fired steel bullets from the American M-4 carbine assault rifle. These steel bullets pierced the thick iron sheets of army vehicles and hit the soldiers.

The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF) claimed responsibility for the attack. The terrorists also released pictures of the attack site on social media, claiming that M-4 rifles were used.

There was an attack in Poonch in January this year too

On 12 January this year, terrorists attacked an army vehicle in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. After this, the soldiers had to retaliate. There was no news of anyone getting injured or killed in this.

According to intelligence, 250-300 terrorists ready to infiltrate India

On 16 December 2023, a senior BSF officer had informed citing intelligence that 250 to 300 terrorists are on launchpads in the Pakistan border. They are planning to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir. The officer said that the security forces have been alerted. Any attempt of infiltration from across the border will be foiled.

BSF IG Ashok Yadav said in Pulwama that in view of terrorist activities, we (BSF) and the army are keeping an eye on sensitive areas and are alert. In the last few years, the bond between the security forces and the people of Kashmir has increased. If people cooperate with us, we can take the development work forward in a better way.
