At present there are about 8.5 crore investors in the country. Of these, more than 2 crore are women. Also, more than 5 crore families invest directly through stock markets.
India’s economy will be 100 trillion dollars
National Stock Exchange (NSE) MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan said that one in every three wealth of India is coming from stock markets. He said that India’s economy can reach 100 trillion dollars in 50 years.
NSE’s market cap is $4.34 trillion.
However, many officials and ministers have estimated that India will become a 4 trillion dollar economy before the 2024 general elections. The market cap of the National Stock Exchange is 4.34 trillion dollars by the end of 2023. According to UBS report, India had wealth of $ 15.4 trillion in 2022.
Our population is a great strength
Speaking at the event of Bombay Chartered Accountants Society (BACS), Chauhan said that if the world is going to create more wealth of $ 250 trillion, then about 30 percent of it will be from India. We are about 18 percent of the total population of the world and 20-22 percent of the youth population.
Stock market is generating huge wealth for investors
Chauhan said that India’s capital markets are generating huge wealth for investors. People’s trust in stock markets has strengthened. That is why the number of investors in the country has touched 8.5 crore.
Besides, more than 2 crore women are also investing their capital in the stock market. More than 5 crore families of the country are investing through stock markets. This figure is about 17 percent of the total families of India.
Stock market changed people’s lifestyle
In the last 10 years, the stock market has helped in changing the lifestyle of people. Taking aim at Bitcoin, he said that its purpose is to find the next fool whereas the stock market gives you a share in the profits of a company.
These investors are spread in 99.8 percent areas of India
By September 2023, the investor base of NSE had increased from 7 crore to 8 crore. By the end of the year this figure reached 8.5 crore investors. These investors come from about 99.8 percent areas of India. Uttar Pradesh has been in second place with about 90 lakh investors.
The number of investors who traded at least once in equity derivatives in the last calendar year increased by 31 per cent year-on-year to 83.6 lakh. For the cash segment, this number declined by 0.4 percent on an annual basis to 2.67 crore.
