Rahul Gandhi said, “Name and date are necessary in electoral bonds. By looking at the name and date, it will be known when those people have given the bond. First the investigation agencies take action, immediately after that they get the money and immediately after that the action stops.” He alleged that this is pure extortion. ‘Electoral bonds were appreciated in Parliament’
In an interview to ANI, PM Narendra Modi openly expressed his opinion on electoral bonds. He was asked whether the decision of electoral bonds was wrong? In response to this question, he said, “The issue of use of black money in elections has been raised for a long time. No one can deny the expenditure in elections. All parties take election donations.”
What did PM Modi say on cash transactions?
He said, “I wanted that we should try something to get rid of black money. We found a way of electoral bonds, it was also appreciated in the Parliament. To eliminate black money, we banned big notes.” PM Modi said, “The Supreme Court had set a limit of 20 thousand rupees in cash for election donations. We made it 2500 rupees, because I did not want this cash transaction to continue.”
Narrating an incident from the 90s
PM Modi said, “BJP had decided to accept payments for election donations through cheques. Traders would come and say take cash. If you give a cheque, you will have to write it and this can make you a target of the government.” He said that for parties that want to keep election donations secret, electoral bonds should be introduced.
‘There are possibilities of improvement in any decision’
He said that if there were no electoral bonds, which system would have had the strength to find out where the money came from and where it went. He said that it is the success of electoral bonds that everyone’s money trail is being found. Which company gave the money, how did it give it, where did it go? He said that whether this decision was right or wrong, this can be a matter of controversy. It should be discussed. He said that I never say that there is no mistake in a decision.
