Akhilesh’s Brahmin Card: On the strength of backward Dalit and minority i.e. PDA, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav gave such a blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, the pain of which will last for a long time. Now Akhilesh Yadav has made a new plan to surround the BJP. Throwing the first card under this plan, he has made senior SP MLA Mata Prasad Pandey the leader of opposition in the assembly.

By giving his chair to a Brahmin face, Akhilesh Yadav has tried to kill two birds with one stone. His first target is Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Actually, in the politics of UP, Thakur and Brahmin communities have been considered as two axes and staunch opponents of each other. Especially in Purvanchal.
The Thakur vs Brahmin dispute is an old one and it is related to Yogi
SP has already been attacking Yogi Adityanath by using the name of Harishankar Tiwari and has been working to create an image of him as Thakur vs Brahmin. Harishankar Tiwari’s name was counted among the big Brahmin faces of Uttar Pradesh and he was also seen as a vocal opponent of Yogi Adityanath in Gorakhpur. When raids were conducted at Harishankar Tiwari’s house as soon as Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister, even then SP had accused Yogi Adityanath of doing Thakur vs Brahmin politics. Now once again SP has started this campaign.
For the past several days, Akhilesh Yadav has been seen inciting Brahmins over the appointment of officers from the Thakur community to top posts in UP and through this he has been seen attacking Yogi Adityanath. Recently, in an ABP News program, he had asked which community the top 10 officers of UP come from. Actually, CM Yogi Adityanath comes from the Thakur community and the SP has been constantly trying to attract Brahmin voters by accusing him of being biased towards the Thakur community.
12 percent Brahmins, but the impact is much more
Now let’s talk about Akhilesh’s second target, BJP’s vote bank. Brahmin community has been considered the core voter of BJP. However, when this voter broke away from BJP in 2007 and joined Bahujan Samaj Party, Mayawati formed the government in the state. Although there are 12 percent Brahmin voters in Uttar Pradesh, their influence is much more than their number.
Actually, the Brahmin class has been playing an important role in shaping the opinion of educated and many other communities and people. In such a situation, this class becomes important. BJP has been constantly trying to ensure that this vote bank does not slip out of its hands. Giving the post of Deputy CM to Brijesh Pathak is an example of this effort.
There have been allegations of neglect of Brahmins during Yogi Adityanath ‘s tenure. Even during the encounter of Vikas Dubey, efforts were made to create his anti-Brahmin image. Now when many examples of Brahmins’ resentment against BJP were seen in the recent Lok Sabha elections in the state , the Samajwadi Party found an opportunity in it.
Has Akhilesh Yadav added B to PDA?
In view of this occasion, Akhilesh Yadav has given a political message by giving his leader of opposition’s chair to a Brahmin leader, fueling CM Yogi’s anti-Brahmin image. Along with this, he has also added the ‘B’ of Brahmin to his PDA policy. Now it remains to be seen whether the Samajwadi Party will be able to do Mayawati’s magic by attracting BJP’s core Brahmin voters to itself through this move or BJP will play a new move to reverse this move.
Samajwadi Party will benefit from Mata Prasad here
Senior journalist Mahendra Pratap said that after making Samajwadi Party leader Mata Prasad Pandey the leader of the opposition, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has made it clear that along with its main PDA agenda, the party also wants the support of the upper castes. Keeping in mind the 2027 UP assembly elections, the party has tried to bring together not only its core voters but also those voters whose participation in the party is negligible. On the other hand, Mata Prasad Pandey is considered very close to late Mulayam Singh Yadav as well as Shivpal Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav and no one will object to his election in the party. Therefore, the election of Mata Prasad Pandey as the leader of the opposition will definitely give further impetus to the preparations of the SP for the 2027 UP assembly elections.
