Why Kejriwal Resigned: 3 Key Reasons Explained
1. He is the Chief Minister, but has no power Arvind Kejriwal came out of jail on bail after 177 days in the Delhi liquor policy case. The Supreme Court laid down a condition that he will not go to the CM office nor sign any file. That means he has no power even after coming out of jail and being the Chief Minister.
2. Only 5 months of tenure left The tenure of Delhi Assembly is ending in February 2025. This means that the government has only 5 months left for the elections. During this time, governments take populist electoral decisions. Kejriwal is bound by the conditions of the court. There is sympathy with Kejriwal after his release from jail. Kejriwal would like to capitalize on this by demanding elections in Delhi two-three months earlier.
3. Will strengthen the image of an honest leader. Ever since his name came up in the Delhi liquor policy case and he was arrested, BJP leaders were demanding that Arvind Kejriwal should resign from the post of Chief Minister. After resigning, he will be able to directly tell the BJP leaders that he left the post of Chief Minister only because of allegations. Now the public will decide about his honesty.
BJP leaders Bansuri and Manoj Tiwari congratulated
BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj congratulated Atishi on being made the CM, but she said that nothing is going to change by changing the CM. Manoj Tiwari said congratulations to Atishi, we are also ready for the elections.
BJP state president said- face can be changed, not character
BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva said that AAP leaders are trying to transform the party. They forget that they can change the face of the party, but not its character. They cannot wash away the black stains of corruption on their character. The only issue for the people of Delhi in the elections will be Arvind Kejriwal’s corruption.
What will Kejriwal do after his resignation?
Kejriwal may step down from the post of Chief Minister, but he will continue to be the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). After his resignation, his entire focus will be on the Haryana Assembly elections. He will be able to campaign full time for the party candidates. AAP is contesting on all 90 seats after the alliance with Congress was not confirmed. Kejriwal himself is a resident of Siwani village in Sirsa district in Haryana.
After this, he will focus on Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections. In Jharkhand, AAP can contest elections in alliance with JMM.
