Hemant Soren Takes Oath as Jharkhand CM for Fourth Time Amid Congress Infighting; Rahul, Kejriwal and Mamata Join the Grand Show of Opposition Unity!

In the recently held assembly elections, Soren retained the Barhet seat by defeating Gamaliel Hembram of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a margin of 39,791 votes. The JMM-led alliance retained its majority by winning 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, while the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got 24 seats.

The JMM has won its biggest victory in the election so far. It contested 43 seats and won 34 seats. Congress, which is part of the opposition alliance ‘INDIA’ (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), got 16 seats, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) four and CPI (ML) L two seats. Posters of the swearing-in ceremony can be seen all over Ranchi. Security has been tightened in the capital and traffic rules have been implemented.

Hemant’s attack before oath

Schools remained closed in Ranchi city on Thursday in view of the swearing-in of the Hemant Soren-led government. Congress’ Jharkhand unit in-charge and party general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir said that only Soren will take oath and the cabinet will be expanded after the trust vote in the assembly. A few hours before taking oath, Hemant Soren posted on the social media platform ‘X’ saying that “unity is the biggest weapon of the people of the state, who can neither be divided nor silenced.”

According to sources, there is a tug of war going on among the Congress MLAs regarding the ministerial posts. Due to this, the party has not been able to decide the names for the ministerial posts yet. The party has not even decided the leader of the legislative party.

Due to the rift within the Congress, Hemant Soren has decided to take oath alone. State Congress in-charge Ghulam Ahmed Mir told that the cabinet will be expanded after the trust vote is won.

Except Congress MLAs Rameshwar Oraon, Shweta Singh and Nishat Alam, all the newly elected MLAs are in the court of top leaders in Delhi to become ministers. The MLAs have also met the party’s national general secretary KC Venugopal and pleaded for their position.

According to sources, in the new government, there will be 6 ministers from JMM, 4 from Congress and 1 from RJD.

In the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, 16 Congress MLAs have won the elections. In such a situation, the party high command can decide on the names of the Congress to make ministers, among which it can put its seal on any 4 out of Rameshwar Oraon, Irfan Ansari, Radhakrishna Kishore or Ramchandra Singh, Deepika Pandey Singh, Pradeep Yadav and Anoop Singh, keeping in mind the region, caste and other equations.
