They can’t dig my grave: PM attacks Opposition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, saying the Opposition party is unable to digest its successive electoral defeats and will never be able to dig his grave despite nursing deep hatred towards him.

Replying to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, PM Modi regretted the disruption caused by the Opposition party in the Lok Sabha and said it was not just an insult to the President of India but to the Constitution of India.

Congress-led Opposition MPs raised slogans as PM replied and then staged a walkout and later protested in front of the Parliament’s Makar Dwar. As soon as the PM stood up for the reply, Opposition MPs urged the Chair to allow Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge to speak. Chairman CP Radhakrishnan, however, did not allow him, and the PM started his reply amidst the ruckus.

Opposition in the Upper House raised slogans against the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, not being allowed to complete his speech in the lower house during the discussion on the President’s address. Slogans, including “Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi”, “Let LoP Speak” and “We will not tolerate insults” were heard from the Opposition benches.

In his speech lasting about 100 minutes, the PM also spoke about the recent trade deals with the European Union and the US and said the world is feeling more confident about stability after these developments.  He said India is now on ‘Reform Express’ and will achieve the goal of a developed nation by 2047.

“India is signing future-ready trade deals with several nations. In the last few days, we have signed trade deals with nine big nations, including the ‘mother of all deals’ with the 27-nation bloc of the European Union,” he said. He said the Opposition will have to one day reply to what they did to the nation in the past and added that a lot of his energy was spent in rectifying the mistakes of the Congress-led Governments. He also said that India has now become a strong voice of the Global South.
