IND vs AUS: India Loses Sydney Test by 6 Wickets, Australia Wins Series 3-1; Clinches WTC Final Spot and Border-Gavaskar Trophy After 10 Years – Who’s to Blame?

IND vs AUS: India's defeat in Sydney raises questions on performance and strategy. After losing the series 3-1, focus shifts to what went wrong and who is accountable.

IND vs AUS 5th Test Match Report: India has been defeated by Australia by 6 wickets in the Sydney Test. With this, Australia has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25) by 3-1. This is the first time in the last 10 years that Team India has not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia got a target of 162 runs in the fourth innings of the Sydney Test, which the Kangaroos achieved by losing 4 wickets.

India won the toss in this match and chose to bat first, a decision which has obviously proved wrong. Rohit had ruled himself out of this match, due to which Jasprit Bumrah was seen captaining. Team India’s first innings was limited to 185 runs. The Indian batting line-up again proved to be a failure, but the bowlers made a comeback for Team India and bundled out the Kangaroo team for 181 runs. In this way India gained a lead of 4 runs.

India out of the race for WTC final, Australia in the final for the second consecutive time

After this defeat, the Indian team (50.00%) has been eliminated from the race for the final in the current cycle of the World Test Championship, while Australia (63.73%) have entered the final for the second consecutive time.

On the second day of the Sydney Test, Jasprit Bumrah was able to bowl only one over after the lunch break, after which he returned to the dressing room. Rishabh Pant played a brilliant innings of 61 runs in 33 balls and helped India cross the score of 150 in the second innings. India was all out for 157 runs in the second innings, giving Australia a target of 162 runs.

Travis Head and Beau Webster snatched victory from India

Jasprit Bumrah came to bat on the third day, but was not fit to bowl. In his absence, Prasidh Krishna wreaked havoc, but he did not get support from the other end. Australia’s score was once 58 runs for 3 wickets. But from here Travis and Usman Khawaja laid the foundation for Australia’s victory by sharing 46 runs. Khawaja scored 41 runs and after that Head along with Beau Webster ensured victory for his team. Head scored 34 runs and Webster scored an unbeaten 39 runs.

IND vs AUS: Will India’s defeat increase Gambhir’s worries? Who is responsible for this defeat?

Team India was defeated due to these big reasons

After this defeat, the Indian team is out of the race for the WTC final. The Australian team has become the second team to reach the WTC final.

Ind vs Aus: Batting flopped, the biggest reason of defeat

Batting flopped, the biggest reason

Indian batting has been a flop throughout the series. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only batsman who did justice to his ability in the series. Apart from this, no other batsman was able to play well on the Australian pitch. Although KL Rahul had raised hopes with his batting in the beginning, but by the end of the Test series, his bat also got rusty. Jaiswal scored 391 runs and was the highest run scorer for India in this series. After this, other batsmen could not do anything special. KL Rahul (276), Rishabh Pant (255), Kohli (190), Jadeja (135), Shubman Gill (93) and Rohit Sharma scored 31 runs. The poor performance of the batsmen snatched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy from India.

Kohli-Rohit’s flop show

Although cricket is a team game, but in this entire series, only Bumrah was seen taking on the Australian team alone, senior batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma flopped throughout the series. The lack of runs from the bats of both of them was a major reason for India’s defeat.

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah did not get support from other bowlers, Mohammed Shami was missed

One of the major reasons for India’s defeat in the Sydney Test was Jasprit Bumrah’s injury. Bumrah bowled brilliantly in this series and was successful in taking 32 wickets. In this entire series, Bumrah bowled 908 balls on which a total of 418 runs were scored. Bumrah bowled a total of 151.2 overs in the Border-Gavaskar series. After this, Siraj was at second place, who bowled 157.1 overs in this series, even though Siraj got 20 wickets, but Bumrah did not get the kind of support from other bowlers that he should have got. In such a situation, the biggest question before Team India is whether the Indian team does not have a bowler who can prove to be effective in Test matches. Has India also suffered due to the absence of Mohammed Shami?

Question on coach Gautam Gambhir’s strategy?

The blame for India’s defeat will also be put on coach Gautam Gambhir. On one hand, you had bowlers like Prasidh Krishna, but he did not get many opportunities. Prasidh Krishna was included in the last Test match and he impressed with his bowling. At the same time, questions are being raised on the change in captaincy from the last match and then the strategy made to change the batting order.

Fingers are also being raised on the inexperienced coaching staff

Along with Gambhir, questions are also being raised on bowling coaches Morne Morkel and Abhishek Nair. Could the inexperienced coaching staff of Team India also be a big reason?
