T20i : What is the meaning of the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20 team?

T20i : Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have returned to the T20 team. Hardik Pandya's injury has also become the reason for the return of these players.

Return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20i : Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have got entry in Team India for T20 format after a long gap of 14 months. Six months before this year’s T20 World Cup, many meanings are being made for the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The question is also being raised that why the selectors could not move ahead with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli even after trying young players for 14 months. Along with this, it has also become almost clear that Rohit Sharma will be seen commanding Team India in the T20 World Cup. Not only this, Virat Kohli will be an important part of India’s top order in the T20 World Cup.

Actually, Team India’s performance in the T20 World Cup of 2021 and 2022 was very disappointing. In 2021, Team India was eliminated in the first round itself and the blame for poor performance fell on Virat Kohli. Due to poor performance, Virat Kohli lost the limited overs captaincy. The selectors tried Rohit Sharma in 2022. But Team India’s journey could not progress beyond the semi-finals. After this, both these players were kept out of the T20 format for the next 14 months.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya was made the captain of Team India in T20 format, while Suryakumar Yadav was made the vice-captain. It was believed that the team has now moved ahead of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at least in the T20 format. One reason for the exclusion of these two was that the top order was held responsible for the poor performance in both the World Cups.

Due to the presence of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli in the top 3, the team was not getting the kind of start that is required in this format. Rohit Sharma was not batting in the T20 format, while the strike rate of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul was under question.

Selectors had to change plans

But injuries to Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav forced the selectors to go back to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to be fit till IPL. However, now it has become clear that the selectors want to give these two players another chance.

One reason for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli getting a chance in T20 Team India’s excellent performance in the ODI World Cup was also there. Rohit Sharma not only commanded the team brilliantly but his performance as an opener was also amazing.

Rohit Sharma gave a bright start to the team in almost every match. The advantage of which was that the opposing team went on the back foot and the other batsmen were successful in dominating.

At the same time, Virat Kohli kept the team in excellent control in every match. Virat Kohli proved to be a hit in the role of anchor and scored more than 700 runs in the tournament. Apart from this, in the last 1.5 years, Virat Kohli has performed amazingly in every format.

The selectors could not ignore Virat Kohli while recalling Rohit Sharma. Now the responsibility of making Team India champion after 17 years is going to be on the shoulders of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
