Israel-Hamas War Gaza: Hamas has announced that the group is ready to abide by the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip if the International Court of Justice (ICJ) issues an order for it, as long as Israel also abides by it.
“If the court issues a ceasefire ruling, Hamas will abide by the ceasefire as long as Israel abides by it,” the group said in a statement on Thursday.
Additionally, it said that if Israel releases detained Palestinian prisoners, Hamas will also release detained Israeli prisoners, Xinhua news agency reported.
The ICJ is set to deliver its verdict on South Africa’s petition against Israel in The Hague on Friday. It will also rule on South Africa’s demand for the court’s immediate intervention to stop Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed an application with the ICJ for proceedings against Israel seeking prevention and punishment for the crime of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
