Bangladesh Election 2024 Sheikh Hasina Won: :Â In the Bangladesh general election, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League has won the election by a huge margin, but there were cases of violence at many places in this election. Who is Sheikh Hasina?
Sheikh Hasina is the supreme leader of Awami League. She has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh continuously since 2009. Before this, she had held the post of Prime Minister from 1996 to 2001. After victory in the voting held on Sunday, Sheikh Hasina will hold the post of President of Bangladesh for the fifth time. Sheikh Hasina is the daughter of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Although Sheikh Hasina was not interested in politics but due to circumstances she had to come to power.
When father was murdered
Bangladesh became a separate country in the year 1971. Before this, this area was known as East Pakistan and was ruled by the Pakistani government. The first leader of this new country was Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. But it had only been a few years since Mujib Rahman came to power that instability spread in the country. During the communist movement, Sheikh’s government was overthrown. In 1975, the entire family of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed by the army, but Sheikh Hasina and her sister Rehana survived because they were in Germany at that time. Bangladesh remained under military occupation for the next 15 years.
Indira Gandhi gave political asylum
Sheikh Hasina contacted Bangladesh Ambassador to Germany Humayun Rashid Chowdhury. Humayun had good influence among many diplomats of India, so once he asked Indian Ambassador YK Puri to give political asylum to Sheikh Hasina and her sister. The then Prime Minister Inder Gandhi got wind of this and he immediately called Sheikh Hasina and her sister to India by Air India plane. Apart from this, Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr Wajed was given fellowship in the Department of Atomic Energy. The Government of India had given a flat to Sheikh Hasina near Pandara Road. She was here for about six years.
Homecoming
After living in India for six years, she went to Bangladesh and started politics with BTP leader Khaleda Zia. In the year 1991, Khaleda Zia became the first woman Prime Minister. Only five years later, Sheikh Hasina’s Awami Party won the elections. Sheikh Hasina became Prime Minister for the first time in the year 1996.
