PM Modi’s Dhoti-Kurta Look at BJP HQ Victory Speech Seen as Cultural Nod to Bengal Win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew attention not just for his speech but also for his attire as he addressed BJP workers at the party headquarters following the party’s strong electoral performance in West Bengal. Modi arrived in a traditional Bengali-style outfit, widely interpreted as a cultural gesture marking the BJP’s significant political gains in the state. He wore a white panjabi (kurta) paired with a tussar silk dhoti featuring a red border—an attire commonly associated with Bengali tradition.

The Prime Minister’s styling included subtle cultural details, such as tucking the dhoti in a manner traditionally followed by Bengali men. He also wore a cotton scarf with a dotted “buti” design, another reference to Bengal’s textile heritage.

The choice of attire stood out during his address at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, where he spoke after the party’s strong performance in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, which marked a major political shift in the state. Known for using symbolic gestures through clothing on significant occasions, Modi’s outfit was seen by many as a nod to Bengal’s culture and the BJP’s electoral breakthrough in the region.
