China expands Nuclear Missile infrastructure with New Launch Pads near Silo Fields

China is rapidly expanding its nuclear missile infrastructure, constructing more than 80 launch pads, bunkers and communication facilities near its strategic missile silo fields in the remote Xinjiang desert. Satellite images reviewed by Reuters indicate the development is aimed at strengthening Beijing’s ability to respond to any potential nuclear strike.

Security analysts say the large-scale network is designed to enhance China’s second-strike capability by protecting and operating its land-based nuclear forces. The construction includes launch sites for mobile missile systems, air-defence units and facilities that could support electronic warfare, satellite communications and command operations.

The expansion comes amid growing strategic competition between China and the United States, particularly over issues such as Taiwan. Experts believe the new infrastructure reflects Beijing’s efforts to modernise its nuclear deterrent and ensure the survivability of its missile arsenal.
