India finish second at Asian U20 Athletics Championships 2026 with 10 Golds

India delivered a strong performance at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, finishing second in the overall medal tally behind hosts China. The Indian contingent ended the event with a total of 19 medals, including 10 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze, ahead of Japan, which finished third.

The final day proved highly successful for India, highlighted by a record-breaking gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay. The team of Neeru Pathak, Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, Tahura Khatun, and Sehnoor Bawa clocked 3:38.07 to set a new championship record, surpassing Japan’s previous mark from 2018.

India also secured a bronze in the men’s 4x400m relay, where the quartet of Piyush Raj, Sayed Sabeer, Ranjith Kumar, and Mohammed Ashfaq set a new national U20 record with a time of 3:05.54. The race was highly competitive, with all medal-winning teams finishing faster than the long-standing championship record.

Individual performances also stood out. Muskan won gold in the women’s 5,000m race with a time of 16:53.08, while Venkatram Reddy Mogali clinched gold in the men’s 800m, clocking a personal best of 1:48.27.

In field events, Nishchay earned silver in the men’s discus throw with a record-breaking Indian U20 mark of 60.10m. The women’s 4x100m relay team added another silver, while the men’s 4x100m team finished sixth. In javelin, Ashish Yadav narrowly missed a medal, finishing fifth.

The results reflect India’s growing strength in junior athletics, with multiple national records, relay success, and strong individual performances pointing toward a promising future for the next generation of athletes.
