UP CM Yogi Adityanath orders statewide inspection of hotels and commercial establishments after Delhi fire tragedy

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to conduct immediate inspections of hotels, restaurants, and other commercial establishments across the state following the deadly fire in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar that claimed at least 21 lives.

The directive comes amid growing concerns over fire safety compliance in densely populated urban areas and unregulated hospitality units. The Malviya Nagar incident, which occurred at a bed-and-breakfast facility, has triggered nationwide scrutiny of safety norms in similar establishments.

According to officials, CM Yogi has asked district administrations to carry out comprehensive safety audits, identify violations, and take strict action against establishments lacking valid fire clearances or operating beyond permitted capacity.

The move follows reports suggesting serious regulatory lapses in the Delhi tragedy, including overcrowding and missing safety approvals, which are believed to have contributed to the high casualty count.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh are expected to begin inspections immediately, with warnings that strict enforcement measures, including sealing of non-compliant buildings, will be taken where necessary.
