Raipur: Until the permanent campus is constructed in Naya Raipur, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Raipur is operating from the old Legislative Assembly building. Following the relocation of the Legislative Assembly to its new building in Naya Raipur, the old building is being utilized as a temporary campus for fashion design studies. The institute commenced operations here starting from the new academic session. The state government took the initiative to repurpose the old Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly complex for NIFT activities. It is noteworthy that the new, state-of-the-art Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly building was established in Naya Raipur and inaugurated on November 1, 2025. The state government was notified in January that the old Assembly building had been vacated, after which plans were formulated for its optimal reuse.
Cabinet Approval
The formal announcement and approval for establishing the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Chhattisgarh took place on April 17, 2025. The Cabinet meeting approved the proposal to set up the NIFT campus in Naya Raipur. The estimated cost of this project was fixed at approximately ₹271.18 crore. Following the shift to the new Assembly building, NIFT began temporary operations from the old Legislative Assembly building at Zero Point, Raipur.
Education in Fashion Design, Textiles, and Apparel Technology for Youth
The temporary campus of NIFT Raipur in the old Legislative Assembly building commenced operations for the 2026-27 academic session. Activities began here in June 2026. It is reported that NIFT has started operations with various machinery installed at the site. This will provide students with access to high-level training and education in fashion design, textiles, apparel technology, and related fields. The institute’s operations will further strengthen Raipur’s position as a new hub for education and skill development.
