Raipur: Following the mandate for digital attendance in Chhattisgarh’s government schools, the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued strict new directives regarding salary disbursement. Starting July 2026, salaries will be released only to teaching and non-teaching staff whose attendance is recorded on the online portal. An official letter regarding this has been sent to all Divisional Joint Directors and District Education Officers (DEOs).
Salary Payment Linked to Online Attendance
According to the Directorate’s order, teachers and staff registered on the online attendance system who regularly mark their attendance on the portal will receive salaries based on actual working days. If an employee’s recorded attendance is found to be deficient, their salary will be deducted accordingly.
New Rule Effective from July
The department has clarified that since the attendance of staff working in all government schools and education offices across the state is now being monitored digitally, salary disbursement must also be based on this data.
Teachers’ Unions Demand Biometric System
Teachers’ organizations have expressed concern and dissatisfaction regarding this new digital system. The unions argue that most teachers are required to download the VSK app on their personal smartphones, which could compromise their personal privacy and data security. They have submitted a memorandum to the DPI demanding the implementation of a biometric system instead of app-based attendance.
Clarification Sought Regarding Traditional Registers
Teachers’ organizations have also questioned the Education Department on whether the practice of using traditional paper attendance registers (offline logs) in schools has been completely discontinued or if both systems will continue to operate simultaneously. They have demanded clear guidelines on this matter.
