A plot to attack US President Donald Trump was reportedly underway. A California man was arrested at a golf course in Los Angeles; police discovered a gun and ammunition in his car. Authorities stated on Tuesday that he appeared to be monitoring security arrangements for a fundraising event Trump was scheduled to attend at the venue.
16-round magazine and ammunition found in pocket
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the individual was taking photos and videos, and was found with a 16-round magazine and ammunition in his pocket. Officers also recovered a loaded pistol from his vehicle. A search of his home yielded a large cache of weapons, magazines, ammunition, body armor, and an “incriminating” notebook.
Trump was preparing to attend the event
The Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest while Trump was preparing to attend a fundraising dinner for the Republican National Committee at the Trump National Golf Club in the Rancho Palos Verdes area of Los Angeles.
Suspect faces multiple prior charges
The arrested suspect has been identified as Jeanin John Talley. According to the Sheriff’s Department, Talley had been taking photographs and recording videos while observing security measures around the golf course two days prior to the incident. Talley faces charges for several serious offenses, including second-degree robbery, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He is also charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.
It is worth noting that the US President has faced numerous security threats and attempted attacks over the past few years. While some incidents involved actual gunfire, in other cases, security forces managed to apprehend suspects before an attack could occur. Suspect Entered Dinner Event
Several incidents involving breaches of Trump’s security have come to light recently. An armed individual managed to enter the venue during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Trump and the Vice President were both present at the event at the time. Trump and other top leaders were promptly evacuated from the location.
Trump Shot in the Ear at Election Rally
Trump was shot at during an election rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A bullet grazed his right ear; one supporter was killed, and two others were injured. The US Secret Service shot and killed the attacker, Thomas Matthew Crooks, at the scene. (Input: PTI)
