Bilibili App: Until now, YouTube has held a monopoly in the world of video streaming, but a major player has now entered the global market to challenge it. Bilibili, a video-sharing platform established in China in 2009, has launched its new international app for users worldwide. Having arrived on Android and other platforms, this Chinese app is now establishing a global presence. Available in multiple languages, Bilibili’s international version currently supports English, Japanese, Malay, Thai, Vietnamese, and Arabic. Based in Shanghai, the company focuses on content such as live streaming, gaming, and comics, alongside video sharing. The renowned Sony Group Corporation holds a significant 5.22% stake in this major tech company, and its parent company is listed on both the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq in New York.
Own Satellite
Interestingly, after YouTube—owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet—Bilibili is perhaps the only video-sharing platform to have its own satellite in space. This satellite has been named the “Bilibili Video Satellite.”
How Different is Bilibili’s World from YouTube?
Upon opening the Bilibili website, users are presented with a feed of popular videos. It features a slider for featured videos at the top and options for various categories. The platform hosts numerous sections, including animation, dance, entertainment, films, documentaries, TV dramas, and variety shows.
Additionally, it offers live streaming and a game center. There is a dedicated section for comics on the platform. In essence, Bilibili positions itself as an entertainment platform rather than just a video-viewing site. It is also noted that the company’s content reflects the impact of strict regulations and monitoring in China. Watch videos without an account
A key feature of Bilibili is that creating an account is not mandatory for watching videos; users can browse and view content available on the platform without logging in. However, an account is required to access interactive features such as liking or commenting on videos.
The platform also offers a premium membership option. This provides users with access to premium content and additional features, including 4K Ultra HD streaming. The starting price for the premium membership is reported to be 15 Yuan for the first month.
Can you use Bilibili in India?
Currently, the Bilibili app is not available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store in India; however, this does not mean Indian users cannot access the platform. The Bilibili website can be accessed directly through a browser without the need for a VPN.
The website’s interface is primarily in Chinese. Users can, however, navigate it in English by utilizing Google Chrome’s translation feature or a browser translation extension. As mentioned, the Bilibili app is not available on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store in India.
