Mahtari Vandan Yojana 2026: Preparations are underway to extend the benefits of the state government’s ambitious Mahtari Vandan Yojana to the maximum number of eligible beneficiaries. Plans are being made to reopen the portal to include eligible beneficiaries who were previously left out. Additionally, the government is considering expanding the scope of the scheme. According to reports, the process of including women with disabilities, certain categories of unmarried women, and transgender women in the Mahtari Vandan Yojana is moving forward. However, criteria regarding eligibility, age limits, and other necessary conditions will be determined before these groups are included in the scheme.
Data Collection Underway
Data is being gathered from relevant departments to facilitate the inclusion of these new categories. Specifically, information regarding the numbers, age groups, and other essential details of women with disabilities and transgender women is being compiled. Based on this data, the government will assess the potential number of beneficiaries and the financial implications for the scheme.
Opportunity to Apply Anew Upon Portal Reopening
Once the government decides to reopen the portal, eligible beneficiaries who could not join the scheme earlier—for whatever reason—will have the opportunity to apply. Arrangements will be made for an online application process, alongside document verification and eligibility checks.
Focus on Eligibility Criteria
Before expanding the scheme’s scope, the government will determine which unmarried women qualify and establish the minimum and maximum age limits for them. Similarly, clear eligibility rules will be formulated for women with disabilities and transgender women. A final decision is expected once the data and departmental proposals are ready. Currently, the government’s focus is on ensuring that the scheme’s benefits reach genuinely eligible beneficiaries who were previously left out.
67 Lakh Women Currently Benefiting
It is worth noting that 69 lakh women in the state are currently receiving benefits under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana. Under the scheme, the government is directly transferring ₹1,000 per month to the bank accounts of every eligible woman. The government is spending ₹700 crore monthly on this scheme.
