Chhattisgarh Food Safety: Under the ‘Eat Right India’ campaign, the Food and Drug Administration Department in Chhattisgarh has intensified efforts to provide safe and nutritious food to citizens. The department has awarded the ‘Eat Right’ tag to 10 hospitals in the state and granted hygiene rating certification to three food establishments in Khairagarh. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure the availability of clean and high-quality food for patients, their families, and staff within hospital premises.
Significant progress has been made in the state over the past three months regarding ‘Eat Right Campus’ and hygiene rating initiatives. Under the ‘Eat Right Campus’ certification, the district hospitals of Kanker, Balrampur, Surajpur, Koriya, Jashpur, Mungeli, Rajnandgaon, and Bijapur have received the ‘Eat Right’ tag. Additionally, SSIMS Hospital in Durg has also obtained this certification. The hygiene rating awarded to the three establishments in Khairagarh will ensure compliance with established standards. Meanwhile, certification processes for ‘Eat Right Clean Street Food Hubs,’ ‘Eat Right Clean Fruit and Vegetable Markets,’ and ‘Eat Right Schools’ are underway in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Rajnandgaon.
FoSTaC (Food Safety Training and Certification) training sessions are also being organized across various districts to promote food safety standards and improved food management practices. Food business operators have received training in districts including Balrampur, Korba, Mahasamund, Koriya, Dhamtari, Surguja, Manendragarh, and Raipur, with the process continuing in other districts as well. Following the ban on analogue paneer, the Food Safety Department has been taking continuous action; approximately 1,500 kilograms of analogue paneer have been destroyed so far after laboratory testing of samples collected from various locations. Action will be taken against business operators in accordance with regulations if food items are found to be substandard or unsafe during laboratory analysis.
