Incidents of cyber fraud are on the rise across the country. Keeping this in mind, the Rajasthan Police has issued crucial advice to the public on how to protect themselves from such scams. In a recent awareness post on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the police explained that instead of panicking when faced with online fraud, taking the right steps during the “Golden Hour” can help recover lost funds. While cybercrimes are increasing, immediate action can minimize financial loss.
Remember these four key steps if you fall victim to cyber fraud
If you or someone you know becomes a victim of cyber fraud, the first step is not to panic. The Rajasthan Police advises taking the following immediate actions:
Dial 1930: Call the cyber helpline number 1930 immediately after the fraud occurs. This can help get the defrauded amount put on hold or frozen.
Alert the Bank: Immediately inform your bank’s customer care about the Unique Transaction Reference (UTR) number and transaction details.
Preserve Digital Evidence: Do not delete chat histories, screenshots, UPI IDs, or suspicious links. This evidence will be useful during the investigation.
Caution is Safety: Never share your OTP, PIN, or password with anyone.
Other ways to contact
To file a complaint, in addition to calling 1930, you can also reach out via WhatsApp numbers 9256001930 and 9257510100, or contact the National Cyber Crime Portal. The Rajasthan Police’s message is clear: “Trust among the public, fear among criminals.”
