Delhi Metro has made significant arrangements to manage the surge in passenger numbers caused by the DTC bus strike in Delhi. To accommodate the expected increase in commuters across its network due to the ongoing Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus strike, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has increased the number of train trips. A total of eight additional trains were operated today to ease the pressure on the system.
Delhi Metro Operating Eight Extra Trains
These measures by the DMRC aim to maximize passenger convenience—especially during peak hours—and ensure a smoother commute. These enhanced arrangements will continue tomorrow, September 17, 2026. Depending on operational requirements, eight additional trains will run between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. The DMRC remains committed to providing reliable and efficient services and urges passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
DTC Strike Continues
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) strike entered its second day on Wednesday, causing inconvenience to commuters. Drivers—primarily those operating the new electric buses—have gone on strike to demand higher daily wages, medical facilities, and overtime pay. Lalit Chaudhary, President of the DTC Karamchari Ekta Union, stated, “We support the drivers’ demands. So far, no government representative has contacted us. Our strike is peaceful, and we have decided not to operate the buses.”
What Are the Bus Drivers’ Demands?
According to the striking drivers, they are penalized for any damage caused to the buses, a practice they are demanding be abolished. Commuters took to social media to report significant inconvenience due to the reduced number of buses on the roads on Wednesday. It is worth noting that there are currently around 6,500 DTC buses in Delhi.
