Cyclone Murasu hits Andhra coast; impact expected in Chhattisgarh; heavy rain alert issued

Raipur: The weather pattern in Chhattisgarh has shifted with the arrival of November. Following cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’, the state is now experiencing the impact of Cyclone ‘Murasu’, which originated in the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone made landfall along the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh early Tuesday morning. Consequently, rainfall activity is expected to increase across the southern and central regions of Chhattisgarh. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the state on November 3, with the Bastar division expected to be the most affected. According to the department, the spell of rain could continue across the state until November 6.

Local forecasts indicate that the sky over the capital, Raipur, will remain cloudy on November 3. The city may experience one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. During this period, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 30°C, and the minimum around 22°C.

Significant impact expected in Bastar division

Meteorological experts note that the influence of Cyclone ‘Murasu’ began to manifest in parts of Bastar and central Chhattisgarh as it approached the coastline. The cyclone made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The Bastar division is likely to bear the brunt of this weather system.

In Bijapur, Sukma, and Narayanpur, strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are anticipated. Meanwhile, most areas within the Bastar division may see light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers, with the possibility of heavy rain in some locations.

Central Chhattisgarh is also expected to be affected by the cyclone; the sky may remain overcast, with light rain likely in certain areas. In the capital, Raipur, a change in weather was already observed on Monday, with the sky turning cloudy. Warning of thunderstorms and lightning for November 3 and 4

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in various parts of the state for November 3 and 4. During this period, strong winds with speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected, and wind gusts could potentially reach up to 60 km/h.
