Surya Namaskar controversy: Muslim organizations have received a big blow from the Rajasthan High Court on the issue of Surya Namaskar. The High Court has refused to stay the order of organizing Surya Namaskar being organized in schools across the state on 15th February on the occasion of Sapt Saptami. Muslim organizations had filed a petition in the High Court demanding a stay on this order. A hearing on this was held today. The High Court said that the petitioner organization is not a registered society nor are they representatives of school children. Justice Mahendra Goyal’s court asked the petitioners to come again on March 1.
In fact, the Education Ministry of the Bhajan Lal government of Rajasthan has issued an order saying that on the occasion of Surya Saptami, Surya Namaskar should be organized in all the schools across the state. After that, preparations for this started. Education Minister Madan Dilawar has given necessary guidelines by holding a meeting of departmental officials to make this event of Surya Namaskar historic.
Muslim organizations have opposed this order of the government. He says that in Surya Namaskar, the activities like Pranamasanna, Ashtanga Namaskar etc. are a form of worship. Whereas in the religion of Islam, worship of anyone other than Allah is not acceptable. Therefore, it is not possible for the Muslim community to accept it in any form or condition.
The state executive of Jamiat Ulema-Rajasthan had held a meeting regarding this two days ago. By passing a resolution, an appeal was made to the Muslim community not to send their children to school on 15 February. After that, Rajasthan Muslim Forum and AIMIM had filed a petition in the High Court regarding this matter. The education department of Rajasthan is working hard to make this event a success.
