Gautam Adani Shares 5 Formulas for Business Success, Highlights Key Challenges as Well

Gautam Adani said, "As many times as I suffered losses in business and as many times as I fell, I managed to find a way to stand up again. I was able to get up after falling earlier too. I am able to get up even today. I never felt like falling. There was no fear.

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani attended a private event in Mumbai on Wednesday. Meanwhile, during his address he recalled his childhood. Veteran businessman Gautam Adani, born in an ordinary family of Ahmedabad, also talked about the business mantras which helped him to succeed.

Gautam Adani said, “I worked in the diamond business in Mumbai for 4 years. This city taught me to think big, dream big and most of all aspire to succeed.” Adani said, “After this, when I was about to turn 19 and was about to settle in Mumbai, my life took an unexpected turn. I was helped by my elder brother to run a small-scale PVC film factory acquired near Ahmedabad. Called in to help. This business was extremely challenging due to heavy import restrictions and lack of raw materials. This challenge laid the groundwork for my next big lesson.”

Adani said, “But everything was sure to change after the 1985 elections. Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister. He initiated the liberalization of import policies. Despite having no experience, I took advantage of that opportunity. Established a business organization “We started importing polymers to supply to needy small scale industries. I was only 23 years old at that time.” Adani further says, “A journey built on one of the most exciting platforms ever built. This platform we call India.”

Adani Group Chairman says, “If the three decades since the 1990s have laid the foundation for India to become the world’s fifth largest economy, the journey towards 2050 will be even more transformative. It was about opening up to the world. In the coming three decades, the countries of the world will open their doors to India.”

He said, “The digital age has democratized the playing field. It has created open opportunities for a large number of companies. This is an era of rapid growth. The most important hallmark of this digital revolution is the new tech giant billionaires “In the 1990s, there were only two billionaires in India. Today the number is 167.”

Gautam Adani said, “I started my entrepreneurial journey at a very young age. It is about taking risks and being patient even after facing losses at times. The number of times I have suffered losses and the number of times I have fallen, I I managed to find a way to stand up again. I could get up after falling before and am able to get up even today. I was never afraid of falling.”

During this, Gautam Adani also told about those five mantras, which helped him to achieve success: –

First mantra:

The bigger your success, the bigger your goal. The true measure of your success will not be in your achievements, but in your ability to overcome the adversities that come with your achievements.

Second mantra:

The world is complex. It is easy to sell on the principle of simplicity. While simplicity may be the goal, so is the ability to manage complexity. This will set you apart from others and make you a better fighter to navigate in deep waters than those who live on shallow shores.

Third Mantra:

The dynamic model of a fast-growing nation like India needs a flexible approach. The roots of strategic differentiation often lie in recognizing the limitations of bookish knowledge and Western-centric models. It is important to get ideas from books and literature, but keep in mind that these are the opinions of influential storytellers, who have great ability to influence.

Fourth Mantra:

Flexibility often requires the ability to withstand criticism. The higher you rise, the more you need to prepare yourself to deal with criticism. Instead of allowing this to hinder progress, you should be prepared to be misunderstood. You should maintain flexibility within yourself. Therefore, it is about developing an inner strength, which gives you the strength to stick to your convictions even in the face of severe opposition.

Fifth Mantra:

Always remain humble. Humility is the greatest virtue, with the help of which you can achieve everything. Humility doesn’t mean thinking less about yourself, but it can definitely mean thinking a little less about yourself. True leadership lies in acknowledging one’s own achievements, but without trying to overpower others.

Got inspiration from parents

Gautam Adani said that in his early years, his parents deeply influenced and inspired him. He said, “My mother was the pillar of our home. She kept our joint family together tightly. Her commitment to keeping our large family together laid the foundation of family values and beliefs in me. My father was a businessman. In those days “Transactions took place verbally or mostly over the telephone. There were no written documents or contracts. At a very young age, I discovered that these verbal commitments never fail.”

Gautam Adani says, “These childhood experiences played an important role in shaping my beliefs. This has resulted in the core values of the Adani Group today – courage to endure, faith in people and commitment to a greater cause.”
