Israeli army advancing in Gaza’s northern enclave, 19 people killed in attacks
At least 19 Palestinians were killed in overnight Israeli army attacks on Gaza. Medical workers gave this information on Saturday. The Israeli army is advancing further in the Jabalia region. According to international relief agencies, thousands of people are trapped in this area. This has been said in the report of news agency Reuters .
Local residents said the Israeli army carried out air and ground attacks on Jabalia, which is in the north of the enclave and is the largest of the historic refugee camps.
There has been no comment from Israel on this matter yet, but the army had said recently that the army operating in Jabalia and surrounding areas killed dozens of terrorists, recovered weapons and destroyed military infrastructure.
The operation in this area began a week ago. At that time, the army had said that its aim was to fight against Hamas terrorists and prevent Hamas from regrouping.
Palestinian health officials put the number of those killed in Jabalia last week at around 150.
According to doctors, the Israeli army targeted four houses in Jabalia on Friday, killing about 20 people and wounding dozens. The Israeli army has sent troops to Jabalia as well as the nearby towns of Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahiya and ordered people living there to evacuate their homes and move to safer areas south of the enclave.
Palestinian and UN officials say there are no safe zones in Gaza. They have also expressed concern over the acute shortage of food, fuel and medical supplies in northern Gaza. They have said there is a risk of famine there. Gaza’s health ministry has said that Israel’s threat to forcibly evacuate three hospitals has put the safety of patients and medical staff at risk.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the Israeli military operation, which began a year ago, has killed more than 42,000 Palestinians and devastated the area. The operation is aimed at eliminating Hamas terrorists.
The war began after a Hamas-led attack on southern Israeli communities on October 7, 2023. According to Israeli figures, 1,200 people were killed and about 250 people were taken hostage.
Hamas said in a statement on Saturday that Israel ‘s “massacre against civilians” was aimed at punishing residents of Jabalia for refusing to leave their homes. It also said it was a sign of Israel’s military failure to defeat Hamas. Israel has denied targeting civilians.Â
The armed wing of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other smaller groups said their fighters attacked Israeli forces in Jabalia and surrounding areas with anti-tank rockets and mortars.
