Know what is this new rule?
TRAI has said that from December 11, 2024, any such message will not be accepted, in which the number series prescribed by telemarketers has not been used. After this change, the traceability of the message will be good and it will be easy to track and block fake links or fraudulent messages.
Why was the deadline postponed earlier?
This rule was to come into effect from December 1, 2024, but due to lack of preparation, it has now been postponed till December 10. TRAI has instructed telemarketers and institutions to update their number series as soon as possible.
How will this new rule work?
Actually, after the implementation of the new rule, messages without a valid series will be automatically rejected. It will crack down on fake messages sent by posing as banks, companies or other telemarketers and efforts will be made to reduce fraud through spam calls and fraudulent messages.
Fake links are used for cyber fraud
Cyber thugs often use fake links for fraud. They introduce themselves as bank officials and try to steal personal details. This new rule will help in curbing such scammers. After the implementation of this rule, you will not get any fake OTP.
