National Film Awards: ‘Kantara’ Wins Best Popular Film, ‘Gulmohar’ Named Best Hindi Film—See the Full List

70th National Film Awards: Kantara star Rishabh Shetty became the best actor leaving everyone behind. The complete list of winners of the 70th National Film Awards has been revealed. This time many South stars won. Along with this, Neena Gupta also got an award.

70th National Film Awards: The winners of the National Film Awards 2024 have been announced. On Friday, August 16, awards were given in a total of 44 categories including Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Actress. These include 27 feature films, 15 non-feature films and 2 Best Writing in Cinema categories.

Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ won the title of popular film. Manoj Bajpayee and Sharmila Tagore starrer ‘Gulmohar’ managed to win the title of best Hindi film. Malayalam film ‘Attam’ won the award in the best feature film category.

Nithya Menen won the Best Actress award for the Tamil film Tiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh won the Best Actress award for the Gujarati film Kutch Express.

‘Kantara’ became the best film

Rishab Shetty starrer film ‘Kantara’ has been awarded the Best Film Award. This film, released in 2022, was directed by Rishab Shetty. Apart from Rishab, actors like Saptami Gowda, Kishore, Achyuta Kumar and Vinay Bidappa were seen in the film.

‘Gulmohar’ was the best Hindi film

‘Gulmohar’ was released on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar in the year 2023. The film was directed by Rahul V Chitela in which Manoj Bajpayee, Sharmila Tagore, Amol Palekar, Suraj Sharma, Kaveri Seth and Utsav Jha were seen in important roles.

‘Aattam’ gets Best Feature Film Award

Malayalam film ‘Aattam: The Play’ has won the Best Feature Film title at the National Film Awards. Directed by Anand Ekarshi, this film was released on 30 October 2023.

Sooraj Barjatya became the best director

Sooraj Barjatya has won the Best Director award for the film ‘Ounchai’. Neena Gupta has won the Best Supporting Actress award for the same film. Arijit Singh has won the award for Brahmastra in the playback singing category.

The 70th National Film Awards recognise films certified by the Censor Board from January 1 to December 31, 2022. An event will be hosted in October 2024 where President Draupadi Murmu will present the Dada Saheb Phalke Award and all other winners.

What do National Award Winners get?

National award winners are given a silver lotus or golden lotus as a medal. Along with this, a cash prize is also given. However, in some categories only a silver lotus or golden lotus is given.

Dada Saheb Phalke Award- Golden Lotus, Rs 10 lakh, citation and shawl.

Best Feature Film- Golden Lotus and Rs 2.5 Lakh

Indira Gandhi Award- Golden Lotus and Rs 1.25 lakh.

Nargis Dutt Award- Silver Lotus and Rs 1.5 Lakh.

Best Film on Social Issues- Rajat Kamal and Rs 1.5 Lakh

Best Children Film- Golden Lotus and Rs 1.5 Lakh

Best Film- Rajat Kamal and Rs 1 Lakh.

Best Actor- Silver Lotus and Rs 50,000

Allu Arjun became the best actor last year

Last year, the Best Actor award was given to Allu Arjun for the film Pushpa. Allu was the first Telugu actor to receive this honor. Alia Bhatt for Gangubai Kathiawadi and Kriti Sanon for Mimi jointly received the Best Actress award.

The National Award was started in 1954

The National Film Award is the most prestigious film award of the country. It was started in 1954. The first National Award in the category of Best Film was given to the Marathi film ‘Shyamchi Aai’.

This ceremony is organized by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and its entire work is done under the supervision of the Directorate of Film Festival (DFF). After this, the President distributes these awards.
