The film’s director, Farah Khan, revealed this herself in the latest episode of her YouTube channel. In her vlog, Farah visited music director Vishal Dadlani’s farmhouse, where they discussed their decades-long relationship. Farah shared that she had initially approached music director A.R. Rahman for Om Shanti Om, and he had composed the song ‘Masakali’ for the film. Directed by Farah Khan and produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, the movie starred Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, and Shreyas Talpade.

During the conversation, Farah recalled the time she told Vishal she was approaching A.R. Rahman to compose the music for Om Shanti Om, adding that if things didn’t work out, he and Shekhar would be her second choice. Vishal expressed hope that it would work out but also suggested that the two of them could work as assistants on the project.

I don’t know where I was going to use it, but I really love that song and that word.” Jokingly, Vishal remarked, “Even if Shekhar and I hadn’t come on board as composers later, the music for Om Shanti Om would still have been fantastic.” Farah replied that the music turned out so amazing precisely because of the two of them. Vishal continued, “The grand, masala music in Om Shanti Om was unique; it was the last of its kind! It is a traditional masala Bollywood musical film. Even today, I come across reels discussing how we created the ‘Dhoom Taana’ song without AI—back when AI didn’t even exist. The visuals! How were they created?” “We just did it and had fun.” Prior to this, Farah had shared several anecdotes related to this film.
