Vedaa Trailer Release: John Abraham is back in his high-octane action mode, though this time he plays the mentor of Sharvari, who seeks justice against an oppressive system. The trailer of Veda, which released on August 1, is more than just bloodshed and big-ticket action sequences. The trailer opens with John Abraham reciting Lord Krishna’s verses from the Bhagavad Gita while his character is shown brawling with goons. He says, “Jab adharma raajne main dharma ko raksha karunga.”
Abhishek Banerjee’s character is shown torturing villagers as he says, “I believe in and follow the caste system.” Sharvari’s character says, “If caste system is everything then what is the need of law and constitution in this country.”
As the villagers pray for a savior, Sharvari (Veda) seeks the help of Major Abhimanyu Kanwar, a former soldier of the 11 Gorkha Rifles who was court-martialed for not following orders from his seniors. Abhimanyu teaches Veda martial arts and boxing as she wants to fight against discrimination. She gets support from her guru but it is up to her to fight for social justice. There are several explosive action sequences featuring John and Sharvari.
The film has many metaphors from the Mahabharata such as Lord Krishna’s relationship with Arjuna and the use of the name Abhimanyu for John’s character. The film also features Tamannaah Bhatia as John’s girlfriend and Mouni Roy in a dance sequence. Veda is produced by Zee Studios, Emme Entertainment and JA Entertainment. The film is directed by Nikhil Advani and is scheduled to release on August 15.
