Corona Alert: Worrying news regarding the coronavirus has emerged once again. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in less than a month. Most concerning is the fact that four of these 12 patients have died. According to the Health Department, the deceased were already suffering from serious underlying medical conditions.
What did the Health Commissioner say?
Andhra Pradesh Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian shared this information in an official press release on Thursday. He stated that a total of 12 COVID-19 cases were recorded across various locations in the state between June 26 and July 16. He clarified that the disease has not spread like an epidemic in any single specific location; rather, cases have emerged in scattered areas.
Who were the deceased?
The Commissioner stated that the four patients who died were already suffering from multiple serious ailments, including high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease, and other health issues. When these patients—who had compromised immunity—contracted COVID-19, their bodies could not withstand the infection. Regarding the districts, three of the four deaths occurred in Kadapa district alone, while one death was reported in Kakinada.
Where were the cases found?
The first COVID-19 case of the year (2026) in Andhra Pradesh was reported in Kadapa district on June 26. Subsequently, between July 1 and July 16, 11 more people contracted the virus.
The highest number of cases—eight—were found in Kadapa district.
Two cases were reported in Guntur, and one case each in Visakhapatnam and Kakinada.
When the Health Department investigated the source of infection, it was found that two of these individuals had been in close contact with previously infected patients.
What is the condition of the patients? The Health Commissioner stated that a total of 67 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the state between June 26 and July 15, with 11 individuals testing positive. Meanwhile, a 12th patient was identified at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. On a positive note, none of the patients are currently in critical condition. Among the infected individuals, three are currently in home isolation, two are undergoing treatment in the hospital, and three have fully recovered and returned home.
What is the COVID-19 situation across the country?
COVID-19 cases are being reported not only in Andhra Pradesh but in other states across the country as well. Since July 1, a total of 339 cases have been reported nationwide. Kerala tops the list with 115 cases, followed by Karnataka with 64 cases. Subsequently, 43 cases have been recorded in Maharashtra, 39 in Tamil Nadu, 18 each in Andaman & Nicobar and Delhi, and 12 in Rajasthan. Additionally, sporadic cases have been detected in a few other states.
