According to the news published in Economic Times, the government has made many changes in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI). And the government has increased the National Essential Medicine List (NLEM) by 0.0055 percent. The price has increased in a few days.

The price of medicine may increase only once a year

Earlier, in the year 2022, the price of medicines had increased by 12 percent and 10 percent. According to the report, the increase in the price of medicines can be approved only once a year. In the last few years, the prices of things used in medicine have also increased. There has also been an increase of 15 to 130 percent. Paracetamol has increased by 130 percent while the prices of excipients have increased by 18-262 percent. Apart from this, the prices of many medicines have increased. 

Asked for price approval

Members of pharmaceutical industry groups say that the cost of manufacturing medicines is very high. Therefore its price also increases. It is increasing in double digits. Now there is some relief from the increase in prices. Medicines are something that is useful to most people. Contains paracetamol, azithromycin and vitamins and minerals etc.

This list of medicines includes paracetamol, antibiotics like azithromycin, anti-anemia medicines, vitamins and iron. Medicines and steroids used in Covid-19 disease are also in this list. 

The price of paracetamol has increased by 130 percent and the price of excipients has increased by 18-262 percent. Solvents, including glycerin and propylene glycol, syrup have become costlier by 263 percent and 83 percent respectively. The prices of intermediates have increased between 11 to 175 percent. Whereas Penicillin G has become costlier by 175 percent.
