Perfume Alert: Do you apply perfume to your neck? A cancer researcher from Cambridge issues a warning—find out why you should exercise caution.

People love the scent of perfume and use it daily. Most people are seen spraying perfume near their necks, but did you know that doing so is not good for your health? Perfumes contain a significant amount of chemicals, and using them daily—especially on the neck—can pose serious health risks.

Research student Ana Cañadas warned people in an Instagram video, advising them to stop spraying perfume on their necks. She pointed out that you may not realize that hundreds of harmful substances are entering your body along with the fragrance. The danger arises from the ingredients used in perfumes—such as formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, and volatile organic compounds—all of which are endocrine disruptors.

Applying perfume can be dangerous

Explaining the impact on the endocrine system, the cancer researcher noted that these substances mimic or block our hormones. Furthermore, various studies have linked them to infertility, respiratory issues, and even cancer. Perfume labels often list only “fragrance” while concealing harmful ingredients.

What precautions should be taken when applying perfume?

Why shouldn’t you spray perfume on your neck? It is not that every perfume is harmful or that applying perfume directly causes a specific disease; however, it is important to understand that there are significant indirect risks involved. This practice can lead to two main problems.
