UGC NET Re-Exam 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to conduct a re-examination for three subjects of the UGC-NET June 2026 exam. The re-examination for Sociology will be conducted on September 10 in Shift-1 (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM).
New Exam Schedule
Subject Exam Date Time Shift
English September 9, 2026 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Shift-1
Commerce September 9, 2026 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Shift-2
Sociology September 10, 2026 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Shift-1
NTA had conducted the exam for 87 subjects
No additional fee will be charged to candidates appearing for the re-examination. The NTA had conducted the UGC-NET June 2026 exam for 87 subjects between June 22 and June 30. Following the exam, candidates had lodged complaints regarding several errors in the English, Commerce, and Sociology question papers.
The NTA had constituted an expert committee to investigate the complaints. The committee’s inquiry revealed that the question papers for these three subjects contained factual errors as well as significant flaws related to typing, translation, and grammar. The names of renowned scholars were misspelled, book topics were unclear, and some old questions were repeated. The committee concluded that it was not possible to rectify these errors solely through the challenge process. Given the circumstances, and considering the interests of all candidates as well as the fairness of the examination, conducting a re-examination is deemed appropriate. The NTA has also announced the dates for the re-examination of these three subjects.
Details regarding exam centers and admit cards to be released soon
Information concerning the exam city, center, and admit cards for the re-examination will soon be made available on the NTA’s official website. Candidates are advised to check the website regularly for updates.
No impact on results for the remaining 84 subjects
The NTA has clarified that the results for the remaining 84 subjects will be declared according to the original schedule. The re-examination of the three subjects will not cause any delay in the processes for JRF allocation, Assistant Professor eligibility, or PhD admissions. The number of candidates qualifying for the Assistant Professor post will be determined based on 6 percent of the total candidates who appeared for either the original exam held in June or the re-examination. Furthermore, the number of pre-determined seats will not be reduced under any circumstances.
