The Delhi government’s most ambitious scheme, the ‘Mahila Samriddhi Yojana’, could be launched on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Under this scheme, it was announced that women with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh would receive ₹2,500 per month. According to sources, the scheme was delayed because determining the annual income of women from low-income backgrounds took time. Approximately 17 lakh women in Delhi could fall within the ambit of this scheme.
Notably, a provision of ₹5,100 crore was made for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in the Delhi government budget presented this year. Meanwhile, a group of ministers was constituted last year to determine which women would be eligible for benefits under the scheme. Now that their report has been submitted, it is expected that the scheme will be launched on Raksha Bandhan. Funds will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ accounts via digital transfer.
Conditions for Eligibility
It is not the case that the government intends to provide ₹2,500 per month to every woman in Delhi under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. Instead, the government has laid down certain conditions for availing the benefits of the scheme, which are as follows:
The annual income of the scheme’s beneficiaries must not exceed ₹2.5 lakh.
Beneficiaries must not hold a government job or receive a government pension, must not be income taxpayers, and must not own a four-wheeler.
The beneficiary’s Aadhaar must be linked to their bank account, and they must possess a government ration card.
They must be a resident of Delhi and aged between 21 and 60 years.
