New Delhi: There is welcome news for people commuting between the villages of Faridabad and Uttar Pradesh situated along the Yamuna River. The Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a pontoon bridge over the Yamuna River near Arua village. The construction of this bridge will improve connectivity between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, making travel easier for residents of both states. According to officials, work on the project is expected to begin next month. The department has set a target to complete the bridge within two months. Approximately ₹24 lakh will be spent on this project. Once the bridge is ready, thousands of daily commuters between the two states will be spared the need to take long detours, making their journeys more convenient and time-efficient.
Pontoon Bridge to Save Both Time and Money
The proposed pontoon (temporary) bridge over the Yamuna River near Arua village will reduce both travel time and costs for commuters traveling between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Currently, due to the absence of any permanent or temporary bridge over the Yamuna, residents of Greater Noida and villages along the riverbank are forced to take long detours to travel to and from Faridabad. This lengthy route consumes more time and increases expenses related to fuel and fares. This particularly affects farmers, laborers, students, and patients who need to commute regularly between the two states for daily activities. The construction of the proposed pontoon bridge will significantly reduce the distance between the two regions, making travel faster and more convenient than before. This will provide financial relief to the public and facilitate easier movement.
A pontoon bridge is constructed using floating iron structures that are managed according to the river’s water level and weather conditions. If the Yamuna’s water level rises during the monsoon, the bridge can be temporarily removed if necessary. The Public Works Department (PWD) states that all safety standards will be strictly adhered to during construction to ensure safe passage for commuters. According to officials, the construction of the bridge will improve connectivity between the two states, thereby boosting trade, agriculture, and other economic activities. Local residents are hopeful that their long-standing demand is finally being met and that they will soon benefit from improved connectivity. Prakashlal, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, stated that the plan has been finalized; the construction work will be awarded to the selected agency once the tendering process is complete.
