Assam Floods: Amid the ongoing flood situation in Assam, the death toll has risen to 100. Fatalities have occurred across several districts, while vast areas remain inundated. According to a bulletin released on Sunday by the Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS) Assam, severe flooding has severely impacted many parts of the state. So far, 60 men, 23 women, and 18 children (12 boys and 6 girls) have lost their lives.
Why was the death toll revised for Sivasagar?
Officials stated that the death toll figure for Sivasagar district has been revised. One fatality had been inadvertently recorded twice under the same name. Consequently, the death toll for the district was adjusted from 50 to 49. Officials clarified that a single death in Sivasagar district had been mistakenly logged twice; therefore, the total death toll for Sivasagar now stands at 49 instead of 50.
Which districts were most affected?
Cachar district is among the worst-hit areas, recording 22 deaths.
Sivasagar has recorded 49 deaths. Additionally, nine people have died in Karimganj and eight in Golaghat.
Fatalities have also been reported in the districts of Dhemaji, Nagaon, Udalguri, Sonitpur, and Karbi Anglong.
In Jorhat district, approximately 1.66 lakh people across 304 villages have been affected by the floods, with nine deaths reported so far.
The agricultural sector has suffered massive damage due to the floods, and there has also been a significant loss of livestock.
The flood situation remains critical in several parts of Assam. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing in the affected areas. Teams from the district administration and the Revenue Department are monitoring water levels and providing assistance to the flood-affected population. In view of the severe flood situation in the state, the Central and Assam governments are continuously providing relief, rehabilitation, and medical assistance. Officials are working to ensure that essential services and aid reach the affected people, enabling the districts to gradually return to normalcy.
