ATF center launched in Jaipur; de-addiction treatment and medicines now free.

Jaipur: There is welcome news for individuals struggling with substance abuse and their families. An Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF) has become fully operational at the Government Psychiatric Centre, affiliated with Sawai Man Singh Medical College. Patients undergoing treatment for addiction will receive almost all necessary medications free of cost, eliminating the need to purchase medicines from outside sources. A large number of patients visit the Psychiatric Centre seeking relief from addictions to alcohol, opium, smack, heroin, poppy husk (doda-post), tobacco, gutkha, bidis, cigarettes, cannabis, sleeping pills, and other intoxicants. The majority of these patients fall within the 20 to 45 age group. Previously, while facilities for diagnosis, hospitalization, and counseling were free, the range of available de-addiction medications was limited. In response to this, the ATF has been launched with the support of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Under this initiative, the supply of nearly all types of medicines used in treatment is being facilitated through the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC), Ghaziabad, which is affiliated with AIIMS.

Counseling Provided; Identity Kept Confidential

In addition to medication, counseling will be provided to both patients and their families to minimize the risk of relapse. According to the hospital administration, the patient’s identity and all details regarding their treatment will remain confidential. Individuals grappling with substance abuse, stress, depression, or mental health issues can avail themselves of free, round-the-clock consultation via the National Tele-MANAS helpline at 14416. This service also ensures confidentiality.

Financial Burden to Decrease

Scientific and proven de-addiction treatment is now available to patients at a single location. This eliminates the need for them to run from pillar to post for treatment and also reduces their financial burden.
