Alert for rail passengers in Chhattisgarh! Several trains cancelled from November 27 to December 17; some routes diverted—check your train status before travelling.

Raipur: There is important news for rail passengers in Chhattisgarh and several other states. Due to infrastructure development work at the Jharsuguda Passenger Yard—located in the Chakradharpur Division of the South Eastern Railway—non-interlocking work will be carried out on specific dates between November 27 and December 17, 2026. Consequently, the operations of several express and superfast trains will be affected; some trains will be cancelled, while others will be diverted via alternative routes. This may impact passengers in various areas, including Durg, Bilaspur, and Rajnandgaon.

Express trains to remain cancelled on several dates

According to details released by the Railways, the operations of several trains—including the Tatanagar–Itwari Express, Tatanagar–Bilaspur Express, Bilaspur–Tatanagar Express, and Hatia–Durg Express—will be affected during the non-interlocking work.

Details regarding key trains are as follows:

Tatanagar–Itwari Express: Will remain cancelled on specific dates between November 29 and December 16.

Tatanagar–Bilaspur Express: Will remain cancelled on December 4, 5, and from December 7 to 15.

Bilaspur–Tatanagar Express: Will remain cancelled on December 5, 6, and from December 8 to 16.

Hatia–Durg Express: Will remain cancelled on December 8 and 10.

Durg–Hatia Express: Will remain cancelled on December 9 and 11.

Pune–Howrah Duronto Express and Howrah–Pune Duronto Express: The operations of these trains will also be affected on the scheduled dates.

As the full list of affected dates for the Duronto Express and Tatanagar–Itwari Express is not yet clear, passengers are advised to verify the specific dates through official railway notifications.

Operations of the South Bihar Express will also be restricted. The train running between Durg and Ara will only operate up to Rourkela on certain scheduled dates. Passengers intending to travel beyond this point may need to adjust their travel plans.

Change in route for Utkal Express

The Utkal Express (running between Puri–Yoganagari Rishikesh and Yoganagari Rishikesh–Puri) will not be cancelled; however, on specific scheduled dates, these trains will run via an altered route. Passengers are advised to verify the new route and scheduled stops before commencing their journey.

Impact on passengers in Durg, Bilaspur, and surrounding areas

Due to railway development works, passengers traveling from Chhattisgarh toward Jharkhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, and West Bengal may face disruptions. The cancellation of trains, route diversities, and restricted operations may require passengers to change their travel dates or plans.

How to check train status before your journey

Rail passengers are advised to check the status of their train before leaving for the station or beginning their journey. This can be done using the National Train Enquiry System (NTES), the official railway inquiry service, or by calling the helpline number 139.
