CG Crime: In a major crackdown on the drug trade, the Kabirdham police in Chhattisgarh busted an interstate cannabis smuggling operation at the Chilfi border. Police recovered over 4 quintals of cannabis from a hidden compartment in a container truck; the estimated value of the seized contraband is ₹2,23,75,250.
According to reports, police were conducting checks on suspicious vehicles on NH-30 near the Chilfi police station on August 31. During the operation, they intercepted and searched a container truck approaching from the Bodla direction. The search revealed 4 quintals, 47 kilograms, and 445 grams of cannabis, which had been packed, wrapped in khaki tape, and concealed in a secret compartment built above the driver’s seat. Police arrested Baljit Singh, a resident of Amritsar, Punjab, in connection with the case. In addition to the cannabis, the police seized the container truck (valued at ₹27 lakh) and a mobile phone (valued at ₹5,000).
Case registered under the NDPS Act
Action is being taken against the accused under the NDPS Act. Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) is investigating the network and other individuals linked to the smuggling operation. IG (Rajnandgaon Range) Ajay Yadav honored the police team with a cash reward of ₹25,000 for their successful operation.
