CG Holiday 2026: A significant change has been made regarding the holidays following Diwali in the Korba district of Chhattisgarh. The district administration has revised the date of the local holiday previously announced for ‘Bhai Dooj’. Instead of November 9, the local holiday in the district will now be observed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for the occasion of Bhai Dooj. Collector and District Magistrate Kunal Dudawat has issued a new order in this regard.
A local holiday was previously announced for November 9
Initially, the Korba district administration had declared a local holiday for November 9, 2026, on the occasion of Govardhan Puja. Subsequently, the General Administration Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh declared a public and general holiday across the entire state for Govardhan Puja on Monday, November 9. Following this, the district administration adjusted its local holiday schedule.
Holiday for Bhai Dooj now set for November 11
Following the state government’s directive, the Korba district administration has revised the date of the previously scheduled local holiday. According to the new order, a local holiday will now be observed in the district on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for Bhai Dooj. Consequently, there will be a state-wide public holiday for Govardhan Puja on November 9, and a local holiday in Korba district for Bhai Dooj on November 11.
On Bhai Dooj, sisters pray for the long life of their brothers
Bhai Dooj is one of the major festivals associated with Diwali. On this day, sisters apply a ’tilak’ on their brothers’ foreheads and pray for their long life, happiness, and prosperity. In return, brothers express their affection by giving gifts to their sisters. Special prayers and traditional rituals are performed in households during this festival.
Important information for government employees and the general public
Following the revised order from the district administration, the holiday schedule for government offices in Korba district will now align with the new date. Government employees and the general public are advised to take note of this revised holiday date. Those planning essential tasks—especially those involving government offices—should keep November 9 and November 11 in mind when scheduling their activities.
Note: There will be a public holiday across the entire state of Chhattisgarh on November 9, 2026, for Govardhan Puja, while a local holiday has been declared for November 11, 2026—on the occasion of Bhai Dooj—exclusively in the Korba district.
