CG News: Important news for farmers! July 31 is the deadline for crop insurance; 10 crops are covered.

CG News: Farmers can insure their crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the Kharif 2026 season until July 31. During a meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee held on July 16 under the chairmanship of the Collector, officials were instructed to widely publicize the scheme. It was announced that the Chhattisgarh government has notified several crops for the district for the Kharif 2026 season, including irrigated paddy, unirrigated paddy, maize, urad (black gram), moong (green gram), arhar (pigeon pea), groundnut, kodo, kutki, and ragi. The scheme is open to loanee and non-loanee farmers, as well as landowners, sharecroppers, and forest rights leaseholders. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has been contracted as the insurance company for the district.

Premium Amount

According to the Agriculture Department, farmers are required to pay a premium of 2 percent of the total insured amount for cereal, pulse, and oilseed crops, and 1 percent for small millet crops. The prescribed premiums are as follows: ₹1,320 on an insured amount of ₹66,000 for irrigated paddy; ₹990 on ₹49,500 for unirrigated paddy; ₹1,012 on ₹50,600 for maize; ₹1,012 on ₹46,200 for arhar; and ₹550 on ₹27,500 for urad and moong. Similarly, the premiums are ₹1,034 on ₹51,700 for groundnut, ₹198 on ₹19,800 for kodo, ₹209 on ₹20,900 for kutki, and ₹187 on ₹18,700 for ragi.

Where to Apply

Non-loanee farmers can obtain insurance by visiting the nearest Common Service Center (CSC), their respective bank, or a Lok Seva Kendra, carrying their Aadhaar card, bank passbook, B-1 and P-2 land records, and a crop sowing certificate. In the event of crop damage, information must be reported within 72 hours via the ‘Krishi Rakshak’ portal or the toll-free helpline 14447. Officials stated that the monsoon is likely to be delayed and rainfall erratic this year due to El Niño; therefore, to mitigate risk, all farmers must ensure they obtain insurance coverage before the deadline of July 31.
