Raipur: e-KYC has now been made mandatory for electricity consumers. The electricity distribution company has decided to implement e-KYC for all its consumers. According to an order issued by the company headquarters, the e-KYC process will commence on September 1, 2026. Consumers can complete the e-KYC process at their convenience via the ‘Mor Bijli’ app, through a meter reader, or by visiting a distribution center or zonal office. The entire e-KYC process will be free of charge; no fees will be collected from consumers. The company has clarified that if any employee or authorized person demands money in the name of e-KYC, departmental action will be taken against them.
Three main options have been provided to consumers for e-KYC. The first option is to complete the e-KYC online via the ‘Mor Bijli’ app. The second option is to visit a distribution center or zonal office and complete the process through authorized staff. The third option is to get the e-KYC done through a meter reader; meter readers will visit consumers’ homes and complete the e-KYC process using a mobile app. According to the company, the process will involve Aadhaar authentication and document verification. Consumers will not be required to submit photocopies of any documents; only the Aadhaar card will be photocopied, and it will be returned to the consumer after the details are recorded. If the name on the Aadhaar card matches the electricity consumer’s name 100%, the e-KYC will be completed immediately, and a confirmation message will be sent to the consumer’s mobile number.
The electricity distribution company’s headquarters has decided to make e-KYC mandatory for all electricity consumers. As per the instructions issued by the company’s Chief Executive Director, this process will officially begin across the state on September 1. The company has urged consumers to complete their e-KYC on time to avoid any future issues regarding electricity connection services. The company has also reiterated that no fee of any kind will be charged for the e-KYC process. If any employee or individual demands money in exchange for e-KYC, consumers can lodge a complaint with the relevant departmental officials. The company has advised consumers to complete their e-KYC only through authorized channels.
During the e-KYC process, the consumer’s name and connection-related details will be verified. If a significant discrepancy is found between the name on the Aadhaar card and the electricity connection records, corrections can be made through the prescribed procedure. The company states that e-KYC will be conducted in accordance with established protocols to ensure the security of consumer information. This new system will facilitate the updating of electricity consumer records and the organization of connection-related data. Consumers can complete the e-KYC process via the ‘Mor Bijli’ app, through meter readers, or at distribution centers/zonal offices. The electricity company has urged all consumers to complete their verification in a timely manner as part of the e-KYC process commencing on September 1, 2026. This will ensure that consumer records remain up-to-date and facilitate the smooth delivery of future electricity services.
