CG Placement Employees’ Strike: The Urban Body Placement Employees’ Federation has announced a two-day strike, accusing the state government of ignoring their demands. The strike will be held at the divisional level on August 6 and 7 next month. The Federation stated that they have been compelled to launch this agitation because no concrete decisions have been made regarding their long-pending demands. Federation State President Khemulal Nishad, State Working President Sanjay Ade, and all divisional presidents jointly stated that while the organization had consistently raised its demands through peaceful means, no positive or effective decision has been taken to date. There is deep resentment due to the government’s continued neglect and the wage disparities faced by the employees.
According to the Federation, approximately 20,000 placement, outsourced, and contractual employees have been working in various critical departments across the state’s 192 urban bodies—comprising 14 Municipal Corporations, 54 Municipal Councils (Nagarpalikas), and 124 Nagar Panchayats—for the past 15 to 20 years. These employees perform civic duties—such as sanitation, drinking water supply, electricity maintenance, and office work—on par with regular employees; however, despite performing the same work, they do not receive equal pay or equivalent benefits.
Key demands include paying placement employees across all urban bodies remuneration based on contractual rates—similar to the placement employees working in the Directorate of Urban Administration and Development—and the immediate implementation of the four new labor codes. Khemulal Nishad stated that if the government does not take a positive decision soon, the organization will be compelled to intensify its agitation. Sanjay Ade added that, given the persistent disregard for the employees’ interests, agitation has become the only remaining option.
