CG Teacher Promotion: To strengthen sports and physical education in Chhattisgarh’s government schools, the School Education Department has amended recruitment and promotion rules. Assistant Teachers in primary schools who possess the prescribed academic and sports-related qualifications will now be eligible for appointment as Physical Education Teachers through promotion after completing five years of service. To facilitate this, the department has amended the recruitment rules for Physical Education Teachers, PTIs, and Assistant Coaches.
Amending the original recruitment rules, the post of Physical Education Teacher has been placed in the Class III, Level-8 pay scale. Upon promotion, eligible Assistant Teachers will have the opportunity to be appointed to this higher-paying post. This arrangement will apply to the distinct cadres of plain areas and tribal areas.
Cadre of 2,435 Posts Approved
Under the amended rules, a cadre comprising a total of 2,435 posts for Physical Education Teachers, PTIs, and Assistant Coaches has been established. Of these, 1,513 posts are allocated to the ‘E-cadre’ (plain areas) and 922 posts to the ‘T-cadre’ (tribal areas).
Fifty percent of the total posts will be filled through direct recruitment, while the remaining 50 percent will be filled via promotion. This creates direct recruitment opportunities for candidates holding qualifications such as B.P.Ed. and D.P.Ed., while simultaneously opening a pathway for promotion for eligible teachers already serving in the department.
Recruitment and Promotion Process at Divisional Level
The recruitment and promotion process for these posts—including Physical Education Teachers—will be conducted at the divisional level. The appointing authority will be the Joint Director (Education) of the respective division.
A four-member committee will be constituted for the selection process. This committee will comprise the Joint Director (Chairperson), the concerned District Education Officer (Member), the Deputy Director (Member-Secretary), and the Assistant Director (Sports) as an expert member. Age Relaxation for Chhattisgarh Natives
For direct recruitment, the minimum age for candidates is set at 21 years and the maximum at 30 years. However, for natives of Chhattisgarh, the maximum age limit has been relaxed to 35 years.
This provision will increase employment opportunities in government schools for candidates from the state who possess qualifications in physical education and sports.
Strengthening the Sports Education Infrastructure in Government Schools
The new rules mark a step towards providing dedicated human resources for sports and physical education in government schools. The introduction of new cadres—comprising physical education teachers, PTIs, and assistant coaches—will facilitate the systematic conduct of sports activities in schools.
Additionally, the opportunity for promotion available to assistant teachers—who possess the requisite qualifications and have completed five years of service—will open up new avenues for career growth within the department.
