Under the strong leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the guidance of Transport Minister Kedar Kashyap, the state government is continuously taking measures to ensure road safety and effective compliance with motor vehicle regulations. In this context, the Transport Department has issued directives to strictly curb the operation of tractors fitted with dual iron cage wheels (in place of rubber tires) on public roads.
The Transport Department has instructed all Regional Transport Officers to immediately halt the operation of such tractors on roads and to ensure that enforcement action—including the issuance of challans—is taken against drivers who violate the rules. The department has clarified that iron cage wheels are designed exclusively for agricultural operations and use within fields; operating them on asphalt or concrete roads and national highways instead of rubber tires contravenes the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to the Public Works Department, the movement of such tractors on roads causes damage to asphalt and concrete surfaces and increases the risk of accidents. In view of this, the Transport Department has ordered effective measures to control this practice. A special public awareness campaign will be conducted in rural areas with the cooperation of the district administration to inform farmers and drivers about motor vehicle regulations and the safe, designated use of iron cage wheels.
