Chhattisgarh New Electricity Tariff: People in Chhattisgarh, already grappling with high costs, are set to face a hike in electricity charges starting today. The new electricity rates determined by the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission have come into effect today. Consumers will now have to pay an additional 30 to 50 paise per unit. The rates for the current financial year (2026-27) were announced recently. While domestic electricity rates saw an increase of 10 to 20 paise last year, they have risen by 30 to 50 paise this time. Rates for non-domestic consumers have increased by 20 to 40 paise per unit.
Rates for agricultural pumps have been raised by 40 paise per unit. Additionally, several other changes have been introduced in the new tariff structure. The discount for advance payment of electricity bills has been reduced from 1.25 percent to 0.75 percent. Rules regarding delayed bill payments have also been amended; instead of a monthly surcharge of 1.5 percent, a surcharge of 0.04 percent per day will now be levied for payments made after the stipulated deadline. Furthermore, the general tariff applicable to temporary electricity connections under the LV-1 and LV-2 categories has been increased; the rate, previously 1.25 times the standard rate, has now been raised to 1.5 times. A special discount of 10 percent will also be available.
The Chief Minister stated that not only would the surcharge be waived, but eligible consumers who pay their outstanding electricity bills within the stipulated period would also receive a special discount of 10 percent.
