Raipur: Those who dump garbage on roads, vacant lots, drains, and other public places in the capital, Raipur, should take note: the Municipal Corporation will now be keeping a close watch on them. The Corporation is preparing to install approximately 160 CCTV cameras across 70 wards. Deputy Commissioner Jasdev Singh Babra stated that the tendering process for the installation is underway. About 160 cameras will be installed in the first phase, with the number likely to increase based on demand. A three-year contract worth approximately ₹1 crore is being processed; this contract covers the operation and maintenance of the cameras as well as the management of the control room.
The Municipal Corporation has identified specific locations where people frequently dump garbage in the open, and CCTV cameras will be installed at these sites. Surveillance footage will be used to identify and take action against offenders. Under the Corporation’s regulations, fines ranging from ₹50 to ₹50,000 are prescribed for various types of waste-related violations.
Offenses Subject to Fines
Improper disposal of diapers, sanitary pads, and special care waste: ₹100 for the first offense and ₹200 for the second.
Failure to dispose of garden waste (leaves, grass, etc.) in accordance with Corporation guidelines: ₹500 for the first offense and ₹750 for the second.
Dumping, burning, or burying garbage in streets, open spaces, outside homes, drains, ponds, or rivers: ₹500 for the first offense and ₹750 for the second.
Burning of garbage by a waste collection agency or contractor: ₹25,000 for the first offense and ₹50,000 for the second.
Failure to notify the Municipal Corporation at least three days in advance regarding events or functions involving more than 100 people: ₹2,000 for the first offense and ₹3,000 for the second. For street vendors and cart operators failing to segregate wet and dry waste or dumping it in the open, the fine is ₹200 for the first offense and ₹400 for the second.
For gated societies, institutions, or Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) larger than 5,000 square meters dumping waste in the open, the fine is ₹20,000 for the first offense and ₹30,000 for the second.
Hotels and restaurants dumping waste in the open will face a fine of ₹2,000 for the first offense and ₹3,000 for the second.
