Teachers as Hostel In-charges: While the state government in Chhattisgarh’s MCB district is emphasizing regular teacher attendance and improved academic quality in schools, a situation has sparked debate where 27 teachers have been assigned additional charge of tribal hostels and ashrams alongside their school duties. This decision has ignited a fresh discussion regarding the education system and administrative priorities.
The MCB district has already faced scrutiny over poor board exam results. Against this backdrop, the decision to assign additional administrative responsibilities to teachers raises several questions. Education experts argue that a teacher’s primary obligation is to impart quality education in the classroom; however, they are now also expected to oversee hostel operations, meal arrangements, child safety, and other administrative tasks.
Reportedly, many teachers have been given charge of hostels located 15 to 20 kilometers away from their schools. Furthermore, since teacher attendance is recorded via the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) app, managing time effectively at both locations could prove to be a major challenge. Teachers are now faced with a dilemma: should they prioritize classroom teaching or manage hostel operations?
